Ruscoe Road Sheltered Unit Successful refurbishment and re-launch

13 October 2006

The twenty-eight residents from Canning Town’s Ruscoe Road sheltered accommodation enjoyed a special lunch last Friday (6 October) to celebrate their newly-refurbished homes.

More than 100 people attended the event, including Newham Council representatives, members of the local housing association, as well as representatives from Regenter, Pinnacle and the London City East Partnership (LCEP).  The Ruscoe Road property is part of the Canning Town Housing PFI project undertaken by Regenter’s LCEP.

Regenter, a leading investor in and developer of social housing and community-based PFI schemes has refurbished the windows, doors, kitchens, bathrooms, the roof, gardens, a central meeting room and lifts in the Ruscoe Road properties.  Pinnacle is the housing and community management partner for the project.

Steve Bonvini, Manager of the Canning Town PFI project, said: “We are delighted that the refurbishment has benefited the residents of the Ruscoe Road scheme. They have been involved in every step of the refurbishment, from the initial consultation to picking which type of kitchen, colours, and carpet they wanted. The overwhelmingly positive feedback received from the residents is a real credit to the team’s hard working in completing the refurbishment in just five months.”

Arthur White, 78, has been living at Ruscoe Road for 18 years.  He said: “The changes are lovely.  I’m very satisfied.”

Ruth, whose 98-year-old mother Dorothy has been living in Ruscoe Road for 10 years, said: “My mother’s room looks brand new.  It’s really lovely – we are both very pleased with the result.”

Rene Jackson, who has been the Manager of the Ruscoe Road property for seven years, but has worked there for over 30, agreed.  She said: “This is the first time the property has been refurbished in 25 years.  The LCEP team have done a first class job – it is brilliant.  It’s a complete, positive transformation of the existing premises.”

Philip Dallard, Newham Council’s PFI Project Manager, said: “This scheme is part of a 1000 Council homes taking part in the Canning Town PFI project and we are so pleased it is going so well.  We are very impressed by the work of LCEP and are looking forward to working closely with them over the coming years.”
